Work Experience
In HSBC, this is the second stint, having joined in 2017, after previously working with the organization between 2007 and 2011. The experience has been primarily in Risk Management, with a focus on analytics and decision science for both retail asset products and wholesale lending products. Exposure to Financial Crime detection and monitoring has also been part of the role. Before rejoining HSBC, worked with Genpact as a consultant between 2013 and 2017. The diverse projects included sub-prime lending strategy design for a US-based client and risk-based model and strategy design for car loans for an Australia-based bank. Prior to Genpact, brief experiences were had with Emirates Islamic Bank in the UAE and Amex Saudi Arabia between 2011 and 2013. Between 2005 and 2007, worked with AbsolutData in Market Research and Analytics, and between 2003 and 2005, served as an assistant design engineer at Projects and Development India Limited.
Nature of Work
Currently working as VP Decision Science within the Global Risk Analytics team in HSBC, the role involves monitoring and assessing wholesale lending models as part of the "first line of defense." Regular tasks include reviewing model risk management policies and guidelines to align the framework. The job requires frequent discussions with the "second line of defense" of the bank, who provide independent validations of these models. The responsibility of the team is to assess, analyze, and take appropriate actions to remediate any risks related to data quality and model performance. Being in a financial institution, a large portion of the work is dedicated to evaluating regulatory requirements. HSBC, as a large global bank, provides exposure and opportunities to work with different countries and their regulatory requirements, as these models are deployed across various wholesale portfolios globally.
