Work Experience
As an Industrial Engineering graduate, remains thankful for the opportunity to pivot into a techno-commercial role exactly as initially hoped. Works as a Senior Buyer at Siemens Digital Industries Software for the India region. Supports approximately 5000 users for purchasing across 6 unique commodities – IT, Facilities, HR, Sales, Marketing, and Events. With over six years of experience, has gained good exposure to strategic procurement, including spend analysis, conducting e-Auctions, supplier relationship management, and special projects across commodities. Procurement is about more than just making a purchase. The work ensures that the products or services selected align with the latest legal, sustainability, and cybersecurity rules, while maintaining stringent standards of Compliance and mitigating risks for the company. Personally, also takes up content strategy roles for brands under fixed-term contracts, believing that telling a good, authentic story makes a world of difference.
Nature of Work
Procurement is cross-functional due to a variety of aspects. Essentially the role of mediators and bridges between internal customers and suppliers that are tasked with benefiting the company holistically. As such, stakeholder and expectation management (on both internal and external ends) are key tasks in this support function. Several important parameters in purchasing include pricing, quality of goods, quantity of products, delivery timelines, sustainability, value-added scope of services, and so on. As one advances in roles, the nature of work may remain more or less similar, but the intensity of managing all these parameters – and the tradeoffs to be made therein, if any – increases the level of complexity in the processes. Also, if a Buyer is not limited to a specific few commodities, it means that this enhanced complexity is compounded across multiple projects in different commodities. Hence, work in procurement is fairly intensive.
